Hello!

I am an Object Desktop subscriber. I wanted to download Desktop Earth (which is marked as available to OD subscribers for free) from Stardock Central (2.45.464 build 150), but I can't seem to find it. Under "Deskscapes" I see a "Dreams" entry, but it has a "Purchase" button on the right, and when I press that, I get a google page on the Web browser tab, with the search phrase PLEASE ENTER ME.

Any ideas on what gives? Cheers!

Can you verify that you are logged in to and registered? (Look to the status bar)

1st, is your Stardock Central up to date, should be an install button not purchase. If I remember correct that was a bug a little while back.
2nd, since it has purchase you have not any installed? Do you have Vista Ultimate that is required to run Deskscapes?

I'm showing the same SDC version (2.45.464 build 150)

Under 'deskscapes' I show 'Dreams' with an install
which says (in the bottom panel) Dynamic Earth, 3D cube, and Exotic Plasma Dreams.

I see 3d Cube as well.. but have never seen it int he Deskscapes list available to me.. just like Dynamic Earth is now.. I had it now its gone. I want it back but how do i get it? Uninstall/reinstall of the Dreams pack has no effect.

Alright good folks, Ol Nova5 figured it out again for himself after sending a email to Sd and continuing to poke around his system.

Here is how to retrieve the Desktop Earth and even the 3D Bouncing Box one that doesn't appear(even thou box is basic).
Don't worry about %username% not being your username, its a variable used by windows to make operations simpler for it, it will work to your advantage here.
just think of %username% being your username. for me its Nova5 so when you look at the real paths it would be "C:\users\nova5" for me, even thou i use the variable %username%

First.. open a folder window and Paste the following in the location / path bar.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp\sdcentral\Mod_Dreams

See the files Desktop Earth.Dream_ and Bouncing Box Sample.Dream_?
(its best to open a second folder window here and continue on)

Copy both of those to a folder on C:\Users\%username%
I created a folder called Temp for simplicity in C:\Users\%username% create Temp there. Rightclick, New Folder, name it Temp. Copy those files there.
Rename boths files so they have no spaces in the names. i made Desktop Earth.dream_ into de.dream_ and Bouncing Box Sample.dream_ into bbs.dream_

then on the keyboard hit WinKey + R (this opens the Run Command dialog) enter CMD in the box and click OK.

a dosbox appears.. Now type CD Temp. You should now be in C:\Users\%username%\temp.

type Expand de.dream_ DesktopEarth.Dream (press enter)
type Expand bbs.dream_ BouncingBox.Dream (press enter)

Merry Early Christmas, you now have expanded both compressed .Dream files into a useable format, when you rightclick the desktop and pick Personalize, then Desktop Backgrounds. from the dropdown pick Deskscapes. copy both .Dream files into that location.

Its a little complicated for average users but if you follow it carefully or are a techie type it won't be a problem. You can't just rename it from .dream_ to .dream and get it to work, its in a compressed format that thankfully is the standard windows installer format which Expand can handle.
This ONLY works if you downloaded the stuff through SD Central.

Nice but I don't think I will bother? Far too complicated for me and anyway, I have a WinCustomize sub as well and the Desktop/Dynamic Earth (whichever one they decide to call it?) should have come free with that but it didnt last time I had to reinstall! Don't think I will bother re-subscribing to either when they run out this year?

Should look Like this here... I've never had this problem ever!

I have had and used the Desktop Earth dream before but as I had to do a reinstall today, that particular dream has not shown itself anywhere since reinstalling Deskscapes etc? I can get it from the dream section of WC but I will be damned if I am going to pay for it when I have a serial number for it as I get it free as a WC subscriber. The problem is where to find the actual dream and download it, using my serial number? Seems impossible with WC and Stardock Central?

In SDC, the dream is part of the dream pack taht you can see by expanding the little [+] next to deskscapes. It is named "Dreams" and the description says "Desktop Earth, 3d Cube, and Exotic Plasma Dreams." I however have not been able to get any of the dreams in this pack (except for 3d Cube) to activate; I started another thread here about that although no one's answered it yet. Hopefully you'll have better luck getting the dreams to work.

I still get the "PLEASE ENTER ME" like the OP. reinstalling and trying it on different computers doesnt make any difference. A ticket was raised but none of the solutions worked.
